Amber Ortiz, LMHC

EMDR Trained | Trauma, Anxiety & Addiction Therapist |Offering Online Counseling in NY & FL

I work with individuals navigating the lasting effects of trauma, anxiety, depression, and substance use. Whether you’re healing from painful experiences, breaking free from patterns that no longer serve you, or striving to find balance and peace, my goal is to walk alongside you with empathy, understanding, and support.

As your therapist, I provide a compassionate and nonjudgmental space where you can feel safe to explore your emotions and experiences. Together, we’ll uncover your strengths, build resilience, and develop tools to help you create meaningful and lasting change. I use evidence-based approaches, including EMDR, CBT, DBT, Harm Reduction, and Trauma-Informed Care, to ensure your treatment is tailored to your unique needs and goals.

When I’m not in session, I’m continuing to grow both personally and professionally, expanding my knowledge through ongoing training. My passion lies in helping individuals reclaim their power, rediscover hope, and move forward with confidence and self-compassion.

My Approach

I have several years of experience working with individuals navigating a diverse range of mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, substance abuse, psychosis, suicidal ideation, self-injurious behaviors, and trauma. I offer a warm, person-centered approach tailored to each individual by integrating evidence-based approaches with a compassionate, trauma-informed perspective. My goal is to help clients heal, build resilience, and rediscover their sense of balance and hope.

My sessions are collaborative and tailored to each individual. Together, we’ll work to understand patterns, regulate emotions, and build tools for lasting healing and growth.

Education: I hold a Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling from the University of Rochester.

Certifications: I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) with additional trainings in Trauma-Informed Care, Substance Use & Addiction Recovery, and Crisis Intervention.

"Owning our story can be hard but not nearly as difficult as spending our lives running from it. Embracing our vulnerabilities is risky but not nearly as dangerous as giving up on love and belonging and joy-the experiences that make us the most vulnerable. Only when we are brave enough to explore the darkness will we discover the infinite power of our light."
